Evaluative Report
Throughout studying Digital Environments, I have been exposed to a wide range of information and technology that I have been completely oblivious to. Ranging from the impact the Internet is having on the world to how digital technology is aiding and developing the environment that we live in. My favorite subject matter that I have been intrigued by the most is the Internet and how it facilitates anything that already exists. From the Art world to Business, the Internet I feel creates an opportunity for every one to be involved and to project what ever they choose to the world. (Blogs, E-mail, Myspace.) The Lev Manovich essay I found very interesting explaining the WEB 2.0 Culture and what its effects may bring.
The Technology that I was presented with just blew me away, such as the development of HAPTIC, Virtual reality, where the physical feedback from a virtual world can be felt. Learning about these developments opened a lot of questions for me, and the dangers of virtual reality becoming just as real as the world we live in. But this also brings the possibilities of no limits. It's amazing how technology does seem to be the imitation of life and the process of evolution for us where we are being integrated into a digital evolution. We are not only our selves in human being's but also digital imitations of us. (The internet, Virtual reality, even Computer gaming (World of War Craft.))
Visuals created that I have seen within this subject I have been very impressed by, from “Urban Screens” to “Appeel,” they all seem to have their own characteristics and personality however the actual astonishment I fist had is in Urban Screens where the impossible and almost dream like becomes reality. Light is a malleable material and I find it an interesting topic to use. With the technology being produced today, we are given the opportunity to create atmosphere’s, reproductions, environments, art work itself, the possibilities seem to be endless and with technology only ever advancing we are becoming more and more virtual, presenting the tangible objects into imitations.
I feel to ask and pose questions is important and with studying Digital environments, what I find so intriguing is that these questions and predictions that are being asked today are topics that are concentrating on what will actually happen today or in the future. We are studying the future. However with the Lev Manovich essay again in WEB 2.0 culture there is a huge unpredictability because we control it, and we can be influenced.
Our first question was "Digital Is?" My immediate response was "Is Digital.." for the reasons that I was unaware and had no knowledge in the realm of Digital Environments. However my answer now has evolved to "Digital is possibility," merely for the reasons that we are now given the possibilities to create "anything" digitally, weather it being visuals, networks, communication, sound, the realms are never ending and so are the possibilities that Digital Environments creates.

Appeel
"Appeel is a virus spreading through interacting individuals.
Surfaces are covered by thousands of coloured stickers laid out in a grid. Peeling a sticker off leaves a white spot in the grid, people hence start individually and collectively changing its appearance. Once off the wall, the stickers ask to be sticked somewhere: people begin putting them on objects, walls, people, they collect them, they compose new images, they write messages. Slowly the little stickers spread, appearing further away from their source and occupying space.
Appeel inherits basic principles of interactivity and generativity applied to purely analogous means. Its immanent potential of penetrating regulated public and private space counterpoints its apparent plainness. The dot spreads with the promise to ironically mark its carrier as a symbol of sale and possession."
